By The International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching definition is "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." I am a Professional Certified ICF coach (PCC). ICF is the most representative international independent body of certification that abides by a professional code of ethics and a thorough evaluation of specific coaching competencies.

Life coaching, business coaching, leadership coaching, career coaching, team coaching, or executive coaching are just coaching marketing niches of this pure coaching definition. A good ICF coach will coach the whole person, not his role, function, or problems. Also, coaching is not mentoring (advice), counseling (therapy), or training. Professionally certified coaches are thinking-process experts, not content experts.

During each coaching session, a professional coach co-creates an environment of deep listening and presence for both himself and his client, and in this space he:
1. Partners with the client to create clear agreements about the coaching relationship, process, plans, and goals.
2. Supports the client to share freely and maintains a relationship of mutual respect and trust.
3. Focuses on what the client is and is not saying to understand the communication process of the client thoroughly and to support client self-expression and self-understanding
4. Facilitates client insight and learning by using tools and techniques such as powerful questioning, silence, metaphor, or analogy
5. Partners with the client to transform learning and insight into action.

Coaching benefits have been well researched. Clients describe the impact using words like creativity, authenticity, performance, clarity, making strategic decisions, finding actionable insights, concentrating, maximizing potential, future orientation, understanding oneself, discovering own values and purpose, change, and transformation.

Penguins And Our Values: Transformation, Adaptability, Partnership, Purpose, Order, Devotion

The black and white coloring of Penguins offers it excellent camouflage while swimming. From above they blend into the dark sea, and from below their white bellies matches the bright sky. Penguin brings the power to handle opposites with its black and white markings and its ability to live in both Arctic poles and hot climates.

Penguins molt all at once during a 3-week process called “a catastrophic molt”. Penguin symbolism is reminding you that although things may seem chaotic right now, there is a definite order in this chaos. By continually moving forward with your plans and dreams and handling each small piece as it comes up, you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Penguins are birds having dense bones which makes it easier for them to dive. Penguins can drink saltwater. It has to do with a specialized gland that filters out salt. These are avatars of a long evolution period and this is a metaphor encouraging us to adapt and be creative.

Penguins are highly social and communicative creatures. Each penguin has a distinct call that identifies its mate or baby. They also prefer to be in large colonies, doing everything together, be it swimming, traveling, or any other chore. They huddle in groups to stay warm and protected. They rotate their group formation, allowing the outer penguins inside the inner circle.

These birds believe in the idea of one true soulmate. They propose to their partners by giving them a pebble, a sign that they have decided to spend their whole life together. These birds are not only monogamous but also make gentle, kind, and loving partners.

The penguins are deeply concerned about the safe upbringing of their babies. They guard their eggs with their life, and when it hatches, and their younger ones arrive, they keep them pressed to their body to protect them from the harsh climate.

The core ICF coaching competency is the embodiment of a coaching mindset. By the ICF definition is "developing and maintaining a mindset that is open, curious, flexible and client-centered" and covers aspects of the rest of the competencies: creating trust and safety, maintaining presence, listening actively and evoking awareness. The Penguin is a CCE-approved masterclass for ACC, PCC, and MCC coaches looking to make the shift to a coaching mindset.
